Tom has been the Chief Executive of Opencast since 2020, overseeing the growth of the business from a regional North East-based organisation of 80 people to a UK-wide operation with nearly 500 people. Named as one of LDC’s Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders of 2023, Tom has completed the prestigious Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School and has nearly 20 years of experience shaping, leading and delivering significant business and technology change programmes.

I’ve spent over 25 years in technology, specifically at the start up and scale up stages and covered both SaaS and Technology Services. My specialism has become leadership. I enjoy giving back to the technology community and am currently Chair of Dynamo North East’s Advisory Board.

As a seasoned Chief Technology Officer (CTO) with over 30 years of experience, I have a strong background in technology and a vision for digital innovation. I co-founded Spyrosoft, which quickly grew into one of Europe’s fastest-growing tech services companies, thanks to our focus on agility, talent, and delivering real value.
I specialise in helping organisations navigate complex challenges, turning bold ideas into impactful results. My approach emphasises strategic digital transformation, using the latest technologies to optimise operations, unlock new growth opportunities, and foster a culture of continuous innovation.
I’m passionate about creating a desirable workplace for top tech talent, offering flexibility and exciting projects that inspire creativity and drive. My commitment extends to addressing the challenges of the digital skills gap by empowering individuals to grow their capabilities and confidence.

My role involves both the marketing and growth of DCX whilst improving user experience. The goal is to ensure that members get the support and service they need to continue the growth of this not-for-profit platform. This includes increasing the membership and skill diversity of the community, improving communications and brand awareness.

I lead the operational setup, building governance, operational processes, and onboarding frameworks in collaboration with cross-functional teams. I deliver member engagement activities, and develop reporting tools to support the membership. Therefore, ensuring members utilise and gain the most out of the benefits of being a member of DCX.

As Operations Specialist for DCX-UK, I manage end-to-end member onboarding, day-to-day operations, and stakeholder relationships to ensure seamless delivery and member value. I support strategic growth through administration, reporting, and promotional initiatives, helping maintain operational excellence across the community.
